We look at how hard the compressor has been working, whether the condenser fan still spins freely, and how much frost or scale has built up. An older fridge with one clear fault is often worth fixing. An older fridge with three sloppy symptoms usually isn't.
What broke tells you more than how old it is
Some faults are small. A failed door switch, a stuck defrost timer, a clogged drain line, a worn gasket, a dead evaporator fan motor. Those are ordinary parts, and swapping one buys you real time. Also count how many separate things are wrong. Can we still get the part?
This is the quiet dealbreaker. Manufacturers stop making control boards and specific compressors after a model runs its course. For a refrigerator built fifteen or twenty years back, a common motor or thermostat is usually still out there. A model-specific electronic board may not be, or it may only exist as a rebuilt unit with a long wait. We check availability before we ask you to commit to anything. If the part is discontinued or backordered for weeks, we say so plainly. Waiting a month with a dead fridge in the kitchen is not a repair plan, and we won't pretend it is.
