How long can food stay safe if the freezer stops?
A full freezer holds temperature about two days if you keep the door shut. A half-full one gets you around a day. Keep it closed, move what you can to a cooler with ice, and toss anything that sat above 40 degrees for long.
Why does frost keep building up inside?
Frost-free models run a heater on a cycle to melt evaporator ice. When the heater, thermostat, or timer fails, ice piles up and blocks airflow. Bad door seals do it too, by letting humid Texas air sneak in all day.
Is it worth repairing an older freezer?
